Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you're wondering before your first visit.

Why should I choose physical therapy?

In physical therapy, the goal is to resolve your problem, not just temporarily relieve it. Although medication and other treatments can help relieve symptoms, physical therapy produces long-term results. Your physician may still use medication alongside PT depending on your diagnosis.

Do I need a referral or prescription for physical therapy?

No! New Jersey and New York are direct access states, so you can schedule a PT evaluation as soon as you feel you need to be seen. Give us a call or book online, and we'll get you started right away.

Why should I choose E-Motion PT?

E-Motion was created with a mission of enhancing the quality of life of performing artists, active adults and athletes. We are dancers taking care of dancers, and athletes taking care of athletes. We understand the stress pain puts on your mind and body, and how it affects your career and work demands.

Do you offer virtual or mobile visits?

No. Every visit at E-Motion is in-person and hands-on, at our New York (FiDi) or Jersey City (Journal Square) studio. Manual therapy is most effective delivered by touch, so we don't offer telehealth or mobile sessions.

What forms of payment do you take?

We accept cash and check payments at the end of each session. For insurance questions, contact us directly. We're a fee-for-service, out-of-network provider.

What should I expect from my PT sessions?

On your first visit, your physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation lasting approximately 45–60 minutes, including history, postural assessment, neurological screening, and tests and measures to understand your condition. Follow-up appointments typically last 45–60 minutes, with interventions like manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, electrical modalities if needed, and Graston Technique.

How long before I start to see results?

Many clients experience decreased pain or improved function during their very first session. On average, most clients who are injured feel pain-free within 4–6 sessions. Clients focused on performance typically start seeing results within 6–8 conditioning sessions. More complex injuries may take longer, but our goal is always to get you back to your best as soon as possible.

Do you offer workshops?

Yes. Check our Wellness Services for group class offerings, or contact us with what you're looking for and we'll create a class just for your needs.

What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 24 hours of your visit, and no-shows, are subject to a $75 fee.
